zandoriastudios Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 http://misscastaway.com/ A lot of the special Effects in this movie were done in Animation:Master! I know that they just finished a 35mm blow-up for theatrical release (but I don't know if/when we will see it on the big screen), but here is a chance to own it now Quote

heyvern Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Coool! I just ordered the signed DVD and the signed poster! It didn't look like the price was different though. I thought the signed ones should cost more. Not complaining of course. WooHoo! Can't wait! I hope it gets here before Christmas. I can show it to the whole family! p.s. In a few years you can release a criterion collection with the extended directors cut. Vernon "!" Zehr Quote
Noel Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Who is the producer of the director? See the FAQ of Miss Castaway. That was worth the $20 just for that I can't wait to get my copy. Quote
Tunesy Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Grats, William! I'm not a Michael Jackson fan, but that's a very strong feather to have in your cap. Excellent job! Quote
zandoriastudios Posted December 11, 2004 Author Posted December 11, 2004 I just got my copy and my poster in the mail today! Has anyone else besides me watched it? Any reviews? Quote
heyvern Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 WooHoo!! YeeHaaa!! I love it! I am watching it RIGHT NOW!!! I laughed harder in the first 10 minutes than anything I have seen in years!!!! WooHooo!!.. ...hee heeeh heee... another beauty pagent contestant fell over.... Thanks for this one! It is just pure fun! I will post a more thorough review.... when I can get up off the floor...... ...hee heee...heeee.... I just wet my pants.....ahhhhhhh.... Vernon "I see famous dead people" Zehr Quote
heyvern Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 10 thumbs up! I loved it! That was great! I feel bad though it won't get a bigger audience. If this ever got into theaters you would have a cult classic on your hands. I am serious. All production values aside, this was just a ton of fun. I laughed out loud through the whole thing. The best special effect in the movie was the ark at the end. Hey! was the dodo yours Will? Did you do that part? I loved it! The best part is that... well... quite honestly, I was prepared for the worst. It was way way better than I expected! Congratulations Will on a job well done! I probably never would have seen this if you weren't involved and I didn't use A:M and... I just got paid for some work... and... uh... some other things. ..heee...heee... I am still laughing... I loved the robot... hee... hee... Vernon "!!!!!!" Zehr Quote
zandoriastudios Posted December 14, 2004 Author Posted December 14, 2004 Thanks Vern! Yes I did the dodo--that is the same model I'm using as my avatar (but we didn't have feathers in A:M back then). My favorite shot was the Jurassic Pork spitting out the high heels The only CG shots that I didn't do were: the airplanes, the submarine and nuclear torpedo, the radioactive spider, and the "wilson" ball floating by the raft. They were done by Robert Chapin, and he also did a lot of greenscreen compositing too. I did the animation and compositing for anything involving the swinosaur, Noah's ark(everything in this movie was shot on greenscreen, so the interiors of the Ark--control room, plug-room, etc. were made in A:M and Photoshop and composited with the actors), The dodo character, the UFO, the Storm and tornados, tree uprooted, Ark sinking (that was the most difficult--I posted WIP of that when I was working on it, the ocean in that scene is 100% A:M--ocean and all!), the plug overboard, drowning swinosaur, even the rainbow They have finished a 35mm blow up of the film. It has foriegn distribution and I think it WILL see domestic release (this pre-release DVD is some kind of "buzz" builder). Anyway, lots of fun to work on. I think seeing the context of the effects work that I've posted will give a different perspective to people--the cheesy special effects are all part of the parody It is pretty darn funny--especially if you like movies like this. heyvern Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Is it possible that it actually might show up somewhere in a real theater? (as opposed to my living room). That would be great! I would love to see this with an audience. The UFOs and the Dodos were another of my favorites scenes. I recognized the Dodo... but wasn't sure without the feathers. p.s. Funny story! I got my box yesterday. before I opened it I was convinced the DVD was not in there. It was big enough for the poster but there was no way a dvd case would fit.... ...You see I have problems thinking outside the box... diagonally! d'oh! Vernon "I'll be right here" Zehr Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 26, 2004 Hash Fellow Posted December 26, 2004 Ok, I bought, I watched it... MUCH funnier than "Telepresence". It seems to be "Survivor" meets Harryhausen meets "Airplane" meets "Wacky Packs" with a strange celebrity cameo mixed in. I have to admit I may have been looking the other way when some of the pop-culture tremors referenced in this film originally happened so not all of the jokes clicked. Mr. Dodo? But very impressive that only a few people did all the effects. Usually you see a hundred names under just "rotoscoping" for something like this. And the effects appear to be working well. Congratulations, William! Quote
heyvern Posted December 27, 2004 Posted December 27, 2004 Hee hee... ... MUCH funnier than "Telepresence". I don't know how you intended it to sound but for some reason I got a big chuckle out of that response. You can't really hurt anyone's feelings with that one! I have to admit I may have been looking the other way when some of the pop-culture tremors referenced in this film originally happened so not all of the jokes clicked. Mr. Dodo? I came up with some theories. They may be wrong of course. I see the dodo as an ET, wilson (other castaway), overly sweet Disney, type of comedic relief parody. The "other" dodos at the end seem to me to be, ET, Close Encounters, Dodos (Ice Age)... The "Ice Age" dodos theory might be a stretch... not sure of the timing (when was Ice Age released?). This would all depend on if the dodo character was "in the script" or used because it was "just lying around, and handy". To be honest, I thought the dodos were absolutely hysterical because they did not seem to make any sense at all in the context of the movie. It was all so darn absurd and ridiculous... I wet my pants laughing... p.s. I just saw Eric Roberts in "Celebrity Black Jack"... I don't think he made any reference to this movie unfortunately... I wonder why... Vernon "!" Zehr Quote
zandoriastudios Posted December 28, 2004 Author Posted December 28, 2004 This would all depend on if the dodo character was "in the script" or used because it was "just lying around, and handy". That is pretty close to the truth. Originally there was another Pageant "mascot" character that was a talking puppet. Then the "Close Encounters/ ET" parody at the end. The "Mr Dodo" character is from the movie "Undercover Angel", starring Yasmine Bleeth (from Baywatch). Stoller substituted Mr Dodo for the mascot after that sponsor pulled out. Those scenes are really wacky, but I think they turned out really good. Stoller is wanting to produce a 40 minute feature with Mr Dodo, I am still trying to figure out if I am up for it. You can see more about Mr Dodo, and even get a stuffed one (that the model was based on) at www.mrdodo.com Quote
zandoriastudios Posted yesterday at 02:17 AM Author Posted yesterday at 02:17 AM Miss Castaway and the Island Girls is streaming on Tubi—this is a movie that I did some CGI animation on years ago! I used Animation:Master for all the shots I worked on 😎 I made Noah’s ark , the Jurassic Pork swinosaur, Mr Dodo and other things, and did some compositing. 1 Quote
