  1. True Pixel Pucker, but in all honesty, I just upgraded my iPad now from a series 2 so it was def worth the money I paid for it for its uses, and remember that am runs fine on very low spec machines and the iPad pro specs are pretty good so I'm just interested at the prospects of it running sure there are tablet pc's and even macs, one of the issues is that I have all my graphics software Adobe etc. licensed on Mac and I dont have the space for setting up a PC just for AM at the moment like I used to and doing things in graphics apps / am is required and becomes a pia on two machines if you're working solitary - mind you it works great on mac but to also have a modeller on iPad for me would be great to chip away at a design almost anywhere, its just my system setup - mac centric
  2. AHA ! I just gave my developers a copy of it and said " let me know how much time etc. to convert this with some tweaks to iOS / Android from this Java " - lot of tech out there to address this . . . so we could have it run in browser on HTML5 abstract or go the whole yard for a native experience " Google's open source J2ObjC translator, meanwhile, takes Java code and translates it to Objective-C source code, Apple's code of choice for iOS devices. Google intends for the translator to accommodate non-UI code, such as application logic. Two other companies, Vaadin and Codename One, have services enabling Java developers to get their applications on Apple's devices. Codename One performs cloud-based cross-compilations from Java to C/Objective-C. "The Java development/debugging is done entirely locally, but when building for the device, the cloud portion does all the heavy lifting," says Shai Almog, CEO of Codename One. Vaadin offers a Java framework for building Web applications for iPad. A Java abstraction is provided on top of HTML5. "
  3. yes have tried png too, not being a nit pick but this was all working perfectly back in AM 95 - 98 ! lol I was like yes ! Thats how I want to decal and trace ! on the first day I got AM given to me by Dylan with no prior knowledge I produced 2 x 30 TVC's with character animation ! but these little annoyances now in 2016 is ummm . . . really annoying, I though AM would mature and get better with age !
  4. " would you believe that this is working better and more stable on my Mac ( even with the ma glitches ) than it is on a PC chief ?!
  5. Yes using old school Targa does the same thing . . . On importing rotoscope it comes in like this . . . If I go into Tools/Option/ Global and toggle the realtime driver from Open GL to Open GL 3 and visa versa then . . . . . . it suddenly loads the image and works normal, sometimes the image breaks and becomes garbled after a restart or after a crash, then usually have to toggle the open GL settings again and fiddle around until it comes back again, textures behave similar to this as well sometimes - any clues ? On mac we can change from Nvidia to Native Mac drivers for the video card but this doesn't seem to matter to this problem using either driver - any clues ?
  6. thanks guys, but still does it on twin monitor setup, even if I dock the pallets to where I want it to, every time I launch it again it shifts everything all over the place, have put what happens here : I set the windows and pallets up like this : But on restart ( even if it doesn't crash ) it resets my pallets workspace, I have tried to reset the settings but it still does this once it is restarted like this . . .
  7. Speaking on 3D prints, one of our local 3D printing companies just had this large format printer installed here in Melbourne, Australia, I'm going to see them next week to get some prices ! check it out here : http://www.omus.com.au
  8. opps sorry here you go : can read about it on my blog which I'm just starting up again . . . http://www.aldrichquaihoi.com/blog/ . . . stilt finish with some detailing more pics on the blog
  9. Hi Fuchur, I already did get an iPad pro, jpatch is pretty solid running in java, just adding points is two step process, instead of like AM with continuous clicks, reminds me of how very early 3D apps used to work - more reconstruction instead of continuous construction like in AM, control points are plotted and curves are locked - pretty sure these would be easy to unlock, Java and LUA are pretty much the same thing with minor syntax changes - I might get the guys to have a crack at it once I've finished a few projects ;-) Stay tuned !
  10. hmmm any ball park figure of a rewrite if I were to be able to get a hold of some software developers, humour me, I would really only think a bare bones modelling app similar to Autodesk 123D - just a modeller that works in patches, that could output in a proprietary format or hash format which could read the model back into AM on desktop, modeller without materials, basic lighting, no choreography, animation, bones etc etc. just a modeller, the management features sound promising too. I was looking at the open source Jpatch which has the source code available under GNU Public release and can read AM model files and has modelling, materials, and other things aside from choreography - **suppose I could give the source files to developers, software engineers and basically say " make this work as an iOS app with saving out to iCloud Drive or direct transfer via iTunes etc " - how many people would be interested if I got a quotation from them ? Which I might do any way just to know ball park figures ? Hmmm . . . looks like a AM modeller in the making to me . . . its written in Java which is similar to a few languages used in apps on iOS, couldn't be THAT difficult to translate with a small team, I have a friend of a friends cousins sisters husbands brothers nephews friend that knows a guy that knows a guy that knows some guys that could pull this off for a fee - anyone interested ? And by all means please take this idea if someone is inclined to pursue it, I'd be happy to chip in something or sign up ( prepaid ) for a paid version say up to $10 or $9.99 per iOS app license coz its worth it.
  11. Just finishing this bike model, all built on the Mac, it was crashing like a @!#$%^^ until I got the new 18j update, but still there is issues on mac when importing rotoscopes but we got there eventually ! Working on this fir Dylan from Momentum Animations Fame, now Perry Animations, looking forward to completing a short with him some time soon !
  12. Hey all, really off topic, but I just got myself an iPad pro and Pencil and was like hmmm . . . AM would rock on this thing, even if its just the modeller, I can only dream for now or can I
  13. Hi Guys, just noticed that importing images seems not working, I have a FX4800 using the Nvidia drivers and after update to 18p its not importing images, I'll try the mac native driver now and let you know . . . anyone come across this ? Before when it was buggy I found that if I toggle the open GL settings in options it would kick in but now . . hmmm . . let me have another crack
  14. Every time I restart AM on mac, or after crash it throws all my pallets, project / properties etc all over the place, like a poltergeist and is driving me nuts, doesn't seem to do this on windows, I'm using a dual screen setup, anyone got any pointers ? Do I need to delete system prefs for AM to reset it again ?
  15. Hey all long time no see, I just downloaded the 18p update, so far so good on early 2008 Mac Pro running El Capitan, well nothing unusual for AM, working on a few things with Dylan from the ole Momentum Animations still got that irritating redraw thing with rotoscopes coming becoming garbled and having to switch between Open GL / 3 etc.
  16. Hey Guys, got back into AM because I needed to visualise this game pad case I have been developing to communicate with the mechanical / electronic engineers and AM was the tool I tuned to, why ? Because I love it and did not want to learn another app because AM is so good. I was reading about the polygon thread and some of that applied here, but from experience and from this example, I would like to point out that AM is very powerful and with the bonus of now outputting STL files it fills in a huge requirement I had back in the days. From working on this I found somethings which I would love to have implemented - mainly being able to control patches / splines much like you do in Adobe Illustrator and a point align tool much like Illustrator as well, I can over look the crashing, I think we are all used to it by now, but as a first and basic step to allow people to use AM like a cad / 3D for product tool the level of control for accurate modelling by mimicking illustrator like spline / point control and alignment would be a god send. It would cut design times to a quarter - also the boolean thing which I posted about earlier. Those three things would boost the tool set am already has for actual production level modelling - dont tell me to use catia / soildworks - normal people can't afford those apps unless we get them " dubiously " - yep not even rhino - I used all of them and I always come back to AM - " it just works " the way I want it to work despite its bugs. And its awesome to see the polygon preview - what would even be better would be the ability to fix / edit the polygons in that view so that you have a solid models for printing instead of fixing or welding up the holes left by 5 points / hooks etc - which I tent not to use when doing mechanical things anyway - you will se my liberal use of 3 point patches of " triangulated " " polygons " - but still in patch form this model is low detail yet high detail when in polygon view. Just an update of what I did the last couple of weeks, I'll get back into character stuff later, but just showing how else could improve AM and expand it from just character modelling and animation. This product is actually happening and I will do a kick starer campaign to fund its production, I have financed this all myself, everything is done we are just finalising the components, but AM can use these images and other renders I do for their folio to showcase it as " hey look at this guy, he designed this product in AM and you can buy it in a store, wow AM is pretty powerful " - and if it goes well, then I hopefully can lend some financing to add these features to AM AND for a NATIVE Mac version with some more developers to help out Stephan - sounds good ? Also been thinking about VR anybody doing any projects with oculus rift development and AM ?? Please share your experiences.
  17. Isn't there already polygon preview built in - I just noticed this, really good for pre visualising for 3D printing
  18. aHA ! I just figured it out, I somehow managed to " bake " the models texture ?? ! - Never knew about this - something new ?? It somehow put all the textures and decals into one texture - as soon as I deleted this from the project decals tree it went back to normal - what is baking ? Is that compressing textures / decals into one map ?? Cant see it in Art of Am manual
  19. Reminds me of the old Poser some what . . . AM is better !
  20. Tried to create a new material and apple it to selection - same deal
  21. hmmm . .. when I add a diffuse colour to a selection it shows up on only some patches when I toggle the decal it shows it properly but then the decals disappear - when I render it shows it as above on only some of the patches is this a bug report or am I not doing something Im supposed to ??
  22. Good idea Bobcat didn't think of that !
  23. Bummer ! That would be awesome if it did, oh well we can only wish !
  24. Thanks Fuchur I will try this !
