I remember the excitement about that with a reviewer exclaiming about the "eye-popping realism". But it looked good to me but I had no idea what a wave it was starting.

Toy Story was rendered at 1536 by 922. I'd be curious to see an original 35mm print in a theater again to see it it was visibly pixely. I didn't notice any at the time, but I recall another CG movie a few years later where pixels were apparent at times. Maybe that was "Antz".

I certainly remember how momentous this was in my little computer graphics bubble.  Never occurred to me at the time that years later I would be working with some of those original animation assets to make into real, physical objects.

It has been ages since I saw it in the theater, but I don't recall it really having any kind of pixels visible.   I had the feeling at the time that it was a watershed moment, but I know I didn't foresee how much CG would change the process of making "regular" movies, never mind all the stuff we are seeing with AI now.   Truly different times we are living in.
