*A:M User* Roger Posted November 11 *A:M User* Posted November 11 Interesting article on Toy Story a friend sent me. It came out 30 years ago. Hard to believe it has been that long. The 'Toy Story' You Remember - by Animation Obsessive Staff 1 Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted November 12 Hash Fellow Posted November 12 I remember the excitement about that with a reviewer exclaiming about the "eye-popping realism". But it looked good to me but I had no idea what a wave it was starting. Toy Story was rendered at 1536 by 922. I'd be curious to see an original 35mm print in a theater again to see it it was visibly pixely. I didn't notice any at the time, but I recall another CG movie a few years later where pixels were apparent at times. Maybe that was "Antz". Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted November 12 Hash Fellow Posted November 12 First preview in the NYT, in a list of upcoming films for the end of the year. First review The full-page ad. Do they still do that? Quote
DrPhibes Posted November 12 Posted November 12 I certainly remember how momentous this was in my little computer graphics bubble. Never occurred to me at the time that years later I would be working with some of those original animation assets to make into real, physical objects. 1 Quote

It has been ages since I saw it in the theater, but I don't recall it really having any kind of pixels visible. I had the feeling at the time that it was a watershed moment, but I know I didn't foresee how much CG would change the process of making "regular" movies, never mind all the stuff we are seeing with AI now. Truly different times we are living in. Quote
