I have to agree. Every version of my Adventure lass Character came out better from the first. Why: Repetition in tasks improved my speed. Repetition improved my memory (of controls, shortcuts, methods, Etc.) Mistakes made me learn to do better. Sucesses were easier to duplicate. I have 4 Projects rolling around in my head and in progress. A.D.D. Makes it hard to stay on track, any distraction for a day or two and I fall in love with another idea.... RetroBot - or How I Shamelessly ripped off Ashley Wood

I actually thought long and hard about beveling the edges for better realism....but I wanted to keep the patch count low and do something with him first and IF it didn't look right - go back and bevel......I may not be done with this guy yet........... -

HASH WIKI OLD What happened to all the info?
UNGLAUBLICHUSA replied to UNGLAUBLICHUSA's topic in A:M Tutorials & Demos
Wayback machine (like with the penguin and the walrus and the scientist)? Archive.org? A little more detail to where I need to look please. Thanks in advance -
Note: Project lost when malicious software wiped my hard drive. Never forget to back up your work........

Before my computer was maliciously hacked and wiped late last year I had a wonderful collection of documents in digital files from the wikiold site. Things like Compositing, Ambient Occlusion, Etc.. not in video - but PRINTED (OR Prinable) format. Have these all become lost in time or were they moved. Any assistance is appreciated. P.S. I se links all over to the ARM...but that site is down. Cheers and thanks in advance for any assistance. Mark

Will's Tutorial is the Cats Ass. It helped me immensly. I give it 3 thumbs up. Eek! Looks like I've become a mutant. -
I did the embed trick - and did a test open, but....it still wanted to look for files so I attached what was needed just in case. This moring I emailed the files to myseld using AOL which zip's everything to try to attach them now...no joy. i think all IS embeeded in the PRJ..... I don't know how much more I will modify this guy or move on to the next Robot Model.....I really should try a 'pass the ball'.....

Free to a good home: 1 Robot Caution- This robot is NOT 3 Laws compliant! 1. This robot is likely to injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. This robot couldn't care less about orders given to it by human beings, even if such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. This robot will protect its own existence and really doesn't give a crap about anyone elses needs. As you can see, some training may be required to housebreak him. No claims of great rigging or decals are made. Use of this model is unlimited but it would be nice to credit me for the Model and Ashley Wood for the inspiration. There is no warranty - Caveat emptor!!!! But HEY - it's a FREE robot darn it! Here is a link to the RetroBot Thread-RetroBot 2009 Thread This robots Head & Shoulder area is slightly different from the 2009 version shown in that thread. Also, the Forum Upload Thingy will not let me upload Materials (*.Mat)..when / if I figure out how - Iwill load them also. Enjoy, life is good! RetroBot - or How I Shamelessly ripped off Ashley Wood
UNGLAUBLICHUSA replied to UNGLAUBLICHUSA's topic in Characters
Thanks to all for the kind words. A compliment from Agep (the KING of mechanical splining) on the modelling details is especially nice. In case anyone wondered, the extra rings on his lower body were intended for access panels that could open and close, that I never got around to doing. I really have to get back up to speed on my Actions to remember how to use all the Rigging I did like the compressing shock absorbers when the hips rise and fall (I had to really fiddle with it for hours - for the pose I did for these images and it should have been about 5 min). It would be cool to have him walking around crushing things and what not. I might have to modify the models looks because it looks too similar now to Ashley's work (like I'm trampling his Creative Rights) for me to feel 'right' about using it for my own selfish ends. RetroBot has no Decals in these images because I want to update those as well...add some Serial / Model / Unit Numbers, add some dents and scratches, access panels, Ribbing to the wiring harness in his hips and some 'gut's' on the inside of the panels. Happy splining to all, updates to follow- Sincerely, Mark -
A while back (August 2007 actually) I entered the Anything Goes Image Contest. As usual, my grandios idea didn't quite pan out. I was loking at the character and thought I might play around with it. The inspiration was from Ashley Woods robot paintings and Robots vs Zombies comics. I just wanted to share what I am up to lately, I hope you find it of interest: EDIT: Oop's - posted *.BMP files instead of *.JPG....bitmaps too huge! Added link to half a** contest image.Retrobots - Anyting Goes Added: All the Robot parts can be downloaded HERE.

One of Many models I am working on for a personal project: It was inspired by the following image. Plus Crabs, Spiders and Turtles. Feng Zhu inspiration Here is afront leg about 2/3 modelled. I will take any constructive criticism OTHER THAN: Too many patches, I would have used a 5 point patch, etc...I model the patch style I do and I'm content.

(Should say OF Render Times - sorry) Hello all, I wanted to share the most important thing I have learned from my previous 3 Contest entries, which is: ALWAYS - budget sufficient time to render out your project the way you envision it to be. The coolest models....with the finest Decals...and over the top Materials, Particles, Etc...will look like crap if you find yourself at the deadline with only time for a quick render. Animation Master is THE 3D Package of choice for anyone who wants to control the content of their work. You can render out to *.exr format (AWESOME), use a boat-load of Post-Production-Effects(again AWESOME), Contol value (The Cat's ASS), Lighting(Critical), Film Grain, I could go on and on.... Learn from my repeated mistake and always allow at least 2-3 days in a 'still' project to be able to properly Render out your image(s) and make necessary adjustments. P.S. When you learn avaluable lesson - share it with others, not all will listen but you will feel good to help those who do.

Thought I'd post my latest WIP

Love it! Nice efficient splinage. -
Haven't tried this but sounds like it would work correctly. You would have to do a fade composite for this trick to work but: Model the character. Make the model transparent & flip the normals to face the inside. Assign particles to surface with full gravity so they fall down. Render animation. Composite the live & CG. Just a thought.

I must know...the tracks, are the (will they be) rigged? Oh, how lovely they look....I just love anything with tracks on it! I want to have your baby...er, nope - that wouldn't quite work now would it......nevermind the baby thing......love the tracks!!!!
-
I use a Cintiq and AM is great with it, especially modelling. In PaintShop Pro & Adobe Photoshop it also kicks serious booty. if you have the $ it's worth the investment.
-
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep going -
-
It looks to be of the caterpillar brand to me...and I LOVE it. SCHWING!! very nice job.

If I may be so bold...why do you want to? Spline hogs like Maya cannot to my knowledge handle the efficient 'low count' spline meshes of HASH models in an animation like AM can.
